CREAM SUCKER SPAWN WAS ON FIRE YESTERDAY...

CONNEAUT WILL FISH GREAT ALL WEEKEND...

Was out on the rivers yesterday doing a little fishing and a little looking around for upcoming trips with clients and found lots of fish and very few anglers. If you are wondering whether to go fishing or not i would say go, then again i would always say go fishing over not going fishing. There is no question that late April and early May provide some of the biggest fish of the year, both steelhead and smallmouth while the fishing pressure really dies down and you have prime stretches or river to yourself. With all the other options this time of year including walleye, trout, bass, panfish,etc...it is only natural that traffic on steelhead rivers will slow down so if you are serious about catching a big smallmouth or steely in our rivers the next few weeks is your time. For late season steelhead i would stick to the Eastside tribs as the Grand, Conneaut, and Chagrin will have lods of fish right up until mid-May while it seems the Fish on the West side leave alot earlier. You might also want to stick to the middle and lower stretches as the monster steelhead that come in this time of year get that way by staying out of harms way which means coming into the rivers (but not to far) taking care of business and moving back out. As i said before with water temps still in the high 40's this will go on for many more weeks with these bigger fish so now's the time to tag a giant Lake Erie Steel.
