Justin showing me how big his latest striper is. Perhaps it was Karma as this fish was to come unhooked moments after i snapped the pic.
Throwing plugs into the suds of the Atlantic, a long followed tradition.

Surf casting is a tough game but our 16 year old niece handles it well and made some nice catches.
Again, Justin hooked up with another fish..showing the spinning rod guys how its done.

Watching pods of bait seek shelter around the rocks and fishing the Beulah two handed surf rod.

The historic surf and cliffs of Gay Head. Here we encountered numerous nude bathers(not Pictured) and few fish.

Ernie sends evidence of some good fishing on the Youghiogheny

Happy faces on happy clients for Laurel Highland Guide service.

Floating the Yough and catching trout, nice way to spend the day.

It seems as though everyone has been out fishing lately which is a good thing. Numerous guys in the shop have been or will be on fishing forays that include trout, bass, tarpon, and bonefish to name a few. The old adage is true i guess about to many fish and not enough time to chase them all, oh well just enjoy the ones you do get to chase. Pa trout reports are still good and all the rain will mean very good late June and early July fly fishing in PA.

On the home front i must say i am not up to speed as lately much of my fishing has been in the salt or chasing PA trout. I will however be on our rivers and in the shop the next few weeks before its off to Montana so look for a local update with the next blog.

Hey Brant, whats up with the Wyoming trout update?????

Tight lines Dan and Pete.

Angler enjoying the magic hour on PA's Spring Creek.

Trout fishing in PA remains very good though the heat and high sun slowed things down some this past week. The recent rains and cooler temps however should mean continued great fishing for anglers in search of Pennsylvania's spotted jewels. Anglers going up this week should have some sulphurs, cahills, ants, beetles, brown drakes, coffin flies, and slate drakes in good supply. For those looking for a nice day trip Oil Creek has been great again this spring and still has sulphurs popping and the Cahills have started which is a strong hatch that brings plenty of fish to the surface as well. If nothing is hatching on your favorite trout stream go deep with the appropriate match hatching nymphs or stay up top with terrestrials or attractors like a royal wulff or adams.
Looking for a new reel? Take advantage of this great offer at Chagrin River Outfitters, buy any Orvis Battenkill or Bar stock reel and receive a FREE Matching spool.
Nice size wild PA Brook Trout caught on a little known spring creek.

Shop is stocked up with the latest summer gear.

Locally some rivers are high and off color due to the recent deluge we experienced yesterday and last night. The Chagrin is very high and will not fish for a few days nor will the Grand. The Conneaut however did not receive much water and should fish tomorrow for those looking to get out after some lake run smallies. The smallmouth fishing has remained pretty good for both lake runners and resident fish, hot flies have been clousers minnows, crippled clousers, full motion crawfish, and wiggle minnows. The lake run smallmouth fishing should remain strong for the next couple of weeks for those still getting out. On the carp front last weeks warm temps
had the golden bones up on the flats and tailing in pretty good numbers. Expect that number to increase as more of these brutes finish their spawn.

Welcome to our new blog! Over the next few weeks you'll start to see many changes with our website, our online store, fishing report, this blog, and even the store as we gear up for the sping. We'll be expanding the shop in the near future to bring you even more gear, the top gear available!

Things are not looking good for Steelheaders. The rivers have a lot of anchor and shelf ice already and with highs in the single digits for next week it is going to shut most everything down. We've received about 12" of snow today and the rivers were about 80% locked up with edge ice & slush with a ton of flow ice! The more advanced guys are finding pockets of fishable waters throughout today but single digit temps forecasted for this week are sure to put an end to the open waters for some time. The good news is it is time to start tying flies for the spring run, and to replace all those flies we last this fall. Justin just put in a huge material order that should be in late next week that includes alot of new materials for nymphs, streamers, spey flies, and egg pattern materials that we are looking forward to playing with.

Fishing Tip; Cold water (33-36) Degrees is tough to catch fish in, they are slow and you need to make repeated offerings in order to get a take. Try to fish in the Afternoons when the water has warmed and the slush has burned off. A rise in water temp of only a couple of degrees can make all the difference between fishing and catching.
