Smallmouth fishing is going strong in our local rivers with crayfish patterns taking many of the bigger fish and top water bugs accounting for decent numbers but smaller sized fish. The Conneaut still has a good number of lake run fish as does the Grand. Pond fishing has again been going very well with the gills providing very steady action and the largemouth providing plenty of excitement on deer hair poppers and divers. Anglers targeting carp are having decent success with nymph patterns, clousers, and crayfish while casting to feeding fish in the shallows of our local rivers. With the low and clear conditions of our rivers anglers covering more water are having better success as they are allowing more fish to see their offerings. As with most fishing if your not catching keep moving until you do, but don't hesitate to fish the same holes on your way back up or down stream with a different fly.
Pennsylvania trout fishing remains very good, as it should be this time of year, sulphurs and green drakes are the big players this time of year so if you are heading East make sure to have plenty of these in your box in nymphs, emergers, duns, and spinners as fish feed on all stages depending on time of day, emergence, etc...
Just in from my sources in North Central PA, the Drakes have started and will be in full affect by Friday, Saturday....Followed by the Giant Brown Drakes....Wish i could go
Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and good luck fishing.
