As winter starts to loosen its grip anglers in northeast Ohio cant help but think spring steelhead, while others have been hitting the rivers all along when conditions permitted.  There have also been a few lucky ones whom visited the Bahamas for a weeks of fun in the Bohemian sun.  Come on down to the shop and check out the new gear and tying materials that have arrived and take advantage of the great free seminars this month (posted on home page of web site) Looking forward to spring.

Pa river smallmouth.

New State Record Steelhead caught last week by angler Jason Brooks on the big lake. Measurments on this beast were 38 long 22 girth and weighing in around 21#'s 3 oz. Congratulations on a hell of a catch Jason.
Atlantic Salmon fishing proved productive from some guys from the shop on the St. Mary's this week.

From the looks of the variety of pics we have been receiving here at the shop plenty of fly anglers are out there having a great summer, keep up the good work. Locally the bass fishing has been pretty good both in the ponds and on the rivers. Carp fishing was coming into it's own as well until the cool night arrived but is still solid mid-day once the waters warm back up.

On another note hope everyone has a great independence day, the holiday with best name i think as it implies we can do whatever we want really which is usually how i treat it, at least to a certain extent.

Angler enjoying the magic hour on PA's Spring Creek.

Trout fishing in PA remains very good though the heat and high sun slowed things down some this past week. The recent rains and cooler temps however should mean continued great fishing for anglers in search of Pennsylvania's spotted jewels. Anglers going up this week should have some sulphurs, cahills, ants, beetles, brown drakes, coffin flies, and slate drakes in good supply. For those looking for a nice day trip Oil Creek has been great again this spring and still has sulphurs popping and the Cahills have started which is a strong hatch that brings plenty of fish to the surface as well. If nothing is hatching on your favorite trout stream go deep with the appropriate match hatching nymphs or stay up top with terrestrials or attractors like a royal wulff or adams.

Locally some rivers are high and off color due to the recent deluge we experienced yesterday and last night. The Chagrin is very high and will not fish for a few days nor will the Grand. The Conneaut however did not receive much water and should fish tomorrow for those looking to get out after some lake run smallies. The smallmouth fishing has remained pretty good for both lake runners and resident fish, hot flies have been clousers minnows, crippled clousers, full motion crawfish, and wiggle minnows. The lake run smallmouth fishing should remain strong for the next couple of weeks for those still getting out. On the carp front last weeks warm temps
had the golden bones up on the flats and tailing in pretty good numbers. Expect that number to increase as more of these brutes finish their spawn.
