Took an Ohio steelheader in search of wild PA browns for his first trout fishing experience

Saw some beautiful sights

Caught a bunch of wild PA brown trout

Had decent dry fly action with trico spinners

Not a bad way to spend a few days in August.

Spent some good quality family time with the girls and my little brother.

And we even took some time to do some personal fishing which is rare these days.

That's what we've been doing. Now it's time to start thinking about steelhead, do we ever stop. We have been getting the shop stocked up with a bunch of new fly tying materials and fly patterns and thinking about a cool wet September. It seems as though everyone has been out fishing lately which is a good thing. Numerous guys in the shop have been or will be on fishing forays that include trout, bass, tarpon, and bonefish to name a few. The old adage is true i guess about to many fish and not enough time to chase them all, oh well just enjoy the ones you do get to chase. Pa trout reports are still good and all the rain will mean very good late June and early July fly fishing in PA.

On the home front i must say i am not up to speed as lately much of my fishing has been in the salt or chasing PA trout. I will however be on our rivers and in the shop the next few weeks before its off to Montana so look for a local update with the next blog.

Trout fishing in PA remains very good though the heat and high sun slowed things down some this past week. The recent rains and cooler temps however should mean continued great fishing for anglers in search of Pennsylvania's spotted jewels. Anglers going up this week should have some sulphurs, cahills, ants, beetles, brown drakes, coffin flies, and slate drakes in good supply. For those looking for a nice day trip Oil Creek has been great again this spring and still has sulphurs popping and the Cahills have started which is a strong hatch that brings plenty of fish to the surface as well. If nothing is hatching on your favorite trout stream go deep with the appropriate match hatching nymphs or stay up top with terrestrials or attractors like a royal wulff or adams.
