And Yough river Brown....
Local fishing reports have been OK for river smallies and carp fishing, though it seems carp are getting harder and harder to catch, even when tailing and presented flies in the best possible manner. The big news is the King Salmon in both NY and Michigan have been on the move in the rivers and anglers are having some early success battling these lake run monsters. If you go to fish for these beasts don't go undergunned, a nine or even ten weight rod is needed to subdue these monsters and in some cases you may be wishing for an eleven weight. Fly selection is pretty simple Caddis Larva, large brown and black stones, egg patterns and gaudy streamers will all produce strikes. Stop by the shop for some great salmon patterns if you go...
We are all itching for steelhead season around here and can't wait to get that first head shake of the season. It shouldn't be long now as i expect fisherman working the piers and beaches will be finding fish the first week or so of September while the rivers usually see fish by Mid to end of September. I know last year my first outing along the beach was August 27th and produced fish until 10 am then things shut down. In the meantime keep cranking flies and stop by the shop to see our great new selection of flies. We have 4x the amount of flies we used to carry with more arriving daily along with gear and materials and will post pics very soon...
Good Luck...
