Feels like Fall has come early, anglers are getting itchy, shop sale Saturday August 16th.

Its the 3rd week of August but feels like early October.  Mid 60's for highs and 50's at night have many guys thinking steelhead, salmon, and browns in the great lakes tributaries.  Around the shop it feels much the same as the fly bins are getting stocked, new rods and reels arrive, and fly tiers are once again getting busy at the vise. Anticipation is higher than we have seen in many years for a good fall run of chrome and guys are itching to hit the water.  I would be ready for early opportunities for steelhead this year, especially as you go East.  Last time we had this weather pattern steelhead were a few weeks ahead of schedule and if things continue to go the way they have been going so far this year look for more of the same.  In the meantime here is a new fly pattern to try this Fall and a few other pics as well.

New fly in fly blog for Fall chrome in our best fish catching colors. We will also be tying these up at the shop during the shop sale Saturday the 16th along with a couple other newbies.

If you need a fix bassing on the local rivers and ponds has been pretty good.

For fly anglers everywhere its never to early brush up on techniques or learn a few new casts.  Got some help myself on the Deleware river a couple weeks ago with the two hander.

Gear sale at the shop Saturday August 16th.  Switch rods, reels, skagit heads, fly tying materials and more to help kick off the Fall season.

Summer doldrums have not been to bad, recent pics of your favorite CRO fishing guides past and present.

Mid July in Ohio has many anglers heading for greener pastures so to speak.  Alaska, Montana, and Canada have anglers traveling the continent in search of angling memories.  Closer to the home front PA trout fishing has been good and local bass fishing has been just ok but should get very good now that the rains have subsided and the heat is upon us. In the meantime i hope your summer has been a good one and remember to support your local fly shop.  Also a few pics below for the slow times at the office.

One of the original and still one of the best shop employees Danny Frank from US school and Chagrin with a giant CO. Brown.

Brett poses with a nice Baby Tarpon from our March 2014 hosted trip destination.  He also managed both permit and bonefish the same day giving him a coveted grand slam.

We have been doing some recon for future angling destinations recently, one of which is the UP of Michigan.  The fishing was great but maybe not as good as the spectacular sunsets.
On the local front white bass have been hounding shiners along the lake shore making for some fast and furious fly rod action in the evenings.
If you like brook trout fishing you owe it to yourself to give the UP of Michigan a try.

CRO hosted trips include the bahamas in December and Pesca Maya in March 2014.  For more info call Pete at the shop 440 247 7110.

Buster brown from a July float trip over the border in PA.  Plenty of water should make for good terrestrial(ants, beetles, etc) in July.

Rain, Rain, and more Rain usually means good fall river conditions.

Justin has been harassing the striped bass on the New England flats of late and is anxiously waiting the arrival of albacore and bonito.

Fabian has been honing his skills in Alaska this summer which will make him even deadlier on the steelhead rivers this Fall.

Small stream trout hunting in PA.

Most of the fish are not large in size but are large in fight and spirit.

This undercut bank has to hold a nice fish, maybe next time
Shop our huge Fathers day Dad's and Grad's sale starting Thursday  June 13th-thru Saturday June 15th.
A new fishing hat will put a smile on dads face.
Its big trout time in the East right now.

Its also big smallmouth time...there are still some big lake runners in the rivers and the Erie shoreline is heating up.

Smallmouth Seminar Saturday May 18th with Jeff Liskay, Pa trout pics, new summer gear arriving every day.

For those interested in becoming a better smallmouth fisherman please join us at the shop for a great seminar and fly tying event that will cover what you need to know to hook more smallmouth bass and where  to pursue these wonderful game fish.  Jeff Liskay will be on hand to share his wealth of smallmouth knowledge Saturday May 18th from 9am to 1pm.  Topics covered will be what makes a good bass fly rod, flies, locations, time of day, fly choice and more.   Also we will have on hand new gear to demo and fly tying so stop on down.  In the meantime enjoy the pics from a recent trip to the Pennsylvania wilds and remember to support your local fly shops.

The Pennsylvania wilds are full of streams and river to explore.
This trophy rainbow came from a well known PA freestone stream.

While this rainbow came from a lesser known PA freestone stream.

And this trophy brown came from a small stream you never heard off that most of us could jump across.  Opportunities for great trout fishing are nearby.

A series of small beaver ponds provided a very good morning of dry fly fishing.

This river is just what many of us needed after a long crowded steelhead season.  The fishing however was a little tough...once more bugs start popping i think that will change.

New products continue to roll into the shop.  This 4 trout T is one of my favorites.

Rainbows on a 4 weight are fun...going from 10# steelhead tippet to 5x tippet is not fun.

Spring is in the air...so are the mayflies.

Ah Spring...take a deep breath, exhale, and bask in its splendor.  Trees are blooming, mayflies are hatching, trout are rising, bass and bluegills are bedding, and just about everything we pursue with a fly rod is attainable.  Here are a few pics of what we have been up to in the last couple weeks and remember to support your local fly shops because they support you.

Pete and Fabian caught up with each other on the Delaware river and had an epic day of trout fishing.

Justin added a great streamer pattern to the fly blog.  This one has been great for bass and pike.

Getting spring/summer gear on the shelves.

Treating yourself to a new fishing shirt, hat, or pants is a great way to kick off the season.

The PA streamer bite has been pretty good so far.

And the bass are getting hungry as well, pond bucket mouths and river smallies are all pounding baitfish patterns.

And for those looking to discover new fishes to fish for they are out there waiting all over Ohio and the midwest.
